Discussion post: Novel length -- The Domesticverse, part 2

This second part of the discussion of gyzym's Domesticverse, Wherever You Will Be (That's Where I'll Call Home) includes parts 5, 7 and 8. We'll discuss part 6 in the rare pair week.
Part 5: pressed against the pending physics of my passed down last name
part 7: life long local foreigner, i
part 8: having let go forever the fallacy of ever being alone

Once again, msbrightsidesh and I really enjoyed discussing these chapters, which are, if possible, even lovelier than the earlier ones.
SO MANY FEELS!

I am not entirely sure how much it influenced fanon or was picking upon fanon that already existed because I'm not sure of the timeline but I feel like it was SO influential for me. The idea that Eames came from a rich, reserved, aristocratic family. The idea that Arthur's family is his opposite, boisterous and exuberant. For me, the idea that Arthur had a really loving sister. I have also stolen Arthur's little "There you are" moment with Eames in his father's death fic, and the way that Eames falls into forgery in that fic, pretending for his family. I have also stolen Eames's fondness for Arthur having Britishisms creep into his speech. I JUST LOVE THIS 'VERSE.

During the funeral fic, I kept waiting for an explicit comparison of Arthur's reservedness to Eames' family, until I finally realized that what I was thinking of was actually from one of your Lucky fics? Just thought I would share that, ahah.

Ha! I actually had to go back and re-read the fic, and you're right, I do give Eames the reserved family and Eames actually thinks how Arthur is like them and what's interesting is that in my fic, it becomes a *good* think. Eames is actually so pleased that his attraction to a reserved individual meant he gets to spend the rest of his life with Arthur that he's grateful for his family. Like, the fact that he's reserved doesn't matter as much as the fact that he's Arthur, or something.

Which kind of fits the Luckyverse, because in that 'verse, although they both find their families bewildering, they also have fond, decent relationships with them, which I wanted because they were raising a kid and although they might raise her differently, I also thought that they might want her to have a sense of a bigger family background. So even though Eames has this reserved family not very like him, I gave him a lingering affection for them through Arthur so that it made sense that Lucky would grow up spending holidays with them sometimes.

I agree with this so much!
So many things in this have been used by others and that's absolutely lovely! Half of this verse makes up my headcanon, and I think it's beautiful that we can be inspired by each other as well as the original material. That's what makes the inception fandom so awesome, that no one is super inent on *only* doing their own thng, on creating a completely seperate world from everyone else, but that we let our works influence each other and build up together.
